SCRIPT
Today we received a short lecture about using "InDesign". I wrote down a few notes for when I use the program later on.
I was able to finish my script in the morning, using the "Firefly" example as reference. One of my classmates helped me formulate some words.
I felt that Dialogue wouldn't add to the story, because the narrative is told strongly through the visuals. I also want the story to be open to interpretation.
["THE CHASE"]
By Lea Dambeck
[introduction]
EXT. EMPTY SPACE, WHITE
A vast emptiness, where everything is
white, the title of the short film fades in.
A young man runs across screen, a
strange creature chasing him. The young man is terrified of the
creature that seems to close the distance. As the chase continues,
the young man sees a strange looking forest appearing in the
distance. He runs faster, hoping to escape the creature.
As he gets closer to the forest, the
creature seems to have slowed down. The young man runs into the
forest, while the creature stops abruptly in front of it.
EXT. FOREST, STRANGE OBJECTS – DARK,
GREY COLOURS
A large forest that seems to go on
forever, the trees so large one can not see where they end. The trees
are made out of circus-like objects.
The young man continues to run,
thinking the creature is still chasing him. He looks behind him,
anticipating the creature behind him, but instead he only sees the
large trees surrounding him. Surprised, he stops, and looks back at
where he came from. Now that he has escaped the beast, he realizes
how scary the forest is. The forest seems endless. He turns around
and walks deeper into the forest. As he continues walking, he starts
to see a clearing.
EXT. CLEARING, MIRROR – WHITE
A clearing, a large circle with trees
surrounding it. A mirror floating in the middle of the clearing.
The young man steps into the clearing,
intrigued by the mirror, he walks toward it. Instead of seeing his
own reflection he sees the reflection of the creature that was
chasing him. He stumbles away in shock. As he regains himself he
draws closer to the mirror, squinting at his reflection. The eye of
the creature transitions into a circus scene.
INT. CIRCUS ,SPOTLIGHTS – FULL OF
COLORS
A large round circus tent, with two
high trapeze platforms in the middle, surrounded with elevated seats
full of people.
A young lady is in the spotlight on one
of the platforms while the young man is in the dark on the other
platform. She is waving toward the crowd, smiling. The young man has
his fists clenched and is looking at her full of jealousy. The drums
start to roll and they both leap for their trapeze bars. As they
swing toward each other, the young lady lets go of her bar and the
young man catches her with one of his hands. His hand is gripped on
her wrist tightly, but he loosens his grip and lets her go.
EXT. CLEARING, MIRROR – WHITE
The eye of the young man transitions
back to the clearing scene.
The young man stumbles back, shocked
with what he has seen. He regains himself and starts to walk away
from the mirror. He stops and closes his eyes. He clenches his fists
and turns around to run toward the mirror. He leaps into the mirror
which transitions to the young man leaping for his trapeze bar.
INT. CIRCUS, SPOTLIGHTS – FULL OF
COLOURS
The young man and the young lady swing
toward each other with their trapeze bars. The young lady lets go of
the trapeze bar again and the young man catches her. He is gripping
her wrist tightly.
THE END
MODELSHEET
I decided on proportions and head shape for my main character, I decided to use similar proportions to the movie "The Incredibles", for the body, arms and legs but also combine some proportions of the short movie "Duo". The face follows more of the style of "Duo", but I decided to add coloured eyes (not plain black ones) to the character's eyes.
I decide to give him a big chest and more built proportions to suggest a hero-type character, to make his appearance misleading. I added a more sharp nose, eyes and eyebrows to contrast the rest of the more smooth shapes. I noticed that my character seems to lean forward on the two last turn-arounds, I will have to fix that later, digitally.
COLOUR TESTS
I think the eye colour can tell a lot about a character.
The far right character's colours, are the ones I might be sticking with. I liked testing out different colours out on him, and found that the very pale skin on him and the pale blue eyes make him look unsettling as well as sinister. I also chose the blonde hair colour and black eyebrows as it can suggest that the character is "fake" and "unnatural" look, it could suggest that he dyed his hair. When I made the main character's boots, collar and belt a dark red, it took away the "Zebra-like" stripes, I decided to stick with darker blue colours as it makes it look more natural. I also chose a very pale blue/white colour for his overall costume, to suggest the zebra.
I decided on the sleeveless design of the costume as it suggests more the 1950s era and the circus.
